Tamoxifen Citrate
Tamoxifen is a medication known as a SERM or selective estrogen receptor modulator. This medication has multiple functions in the world of hormone replacement therapy in men. The first to note would be the treatment of high estrogen or hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin levels) in males. While being treated via hormone replacement therapy, often testosterone injections can increase estrogen to the extent of developing a condition known as gynecomastia or enlarged breast tissue in males. Tamoxifen is also used to prevent worsening of gynecomastia and/or treat the issue fully. This medication, when administered correctly can also be used in lieu of clomiphene citrate to increase fertility in males by suppressing estrogen and allowing testosterone production to increase.
Tamoxifen, like clomiphene citrate can be used as an alternative to male hormone replacement therapy. While Tamoxifen is not as effective as clomiphene citrate in hormone replacement therapy, the remedies to other underlying issues such as gynecomastia and hyperestrogenism are the primary reasons for being treated with this medication. If taken as directed by your physician for early stage gynecomastia, this medication has been known to be significantly beneficial in fully treating the condition.
